In memory of our friend Mark Bernotas, a long-time coach and lifeguard at Cedar Park Pool, the West Island pools hosted a charity water polo tournament.
All proceeds were donated to The Mark Bernotas Water Polo Foundation to help fund other talented water polo prospects in need of financial assistance.

Starting Times for Water Polo Games

The summer of 2010 was a busy one for the ALPS water polo community. Justin Oliveira, the ALPS water polo coordinator, was assisted by Daniel Thauvette who contributed immensely to the program while Justin was away. We would like to thank Dan very much for contributing his time and effort to keeping the programme running smoothly and for always keeping a calm presence when dealing with the sometimes heated issues that arise in water polo.

The 2010 ALPS waterpolo program started out with a clinic for all ALPS water polo coaches and referees so that everyone would be playing with a clear understanding of the rules and with the same sense of fair play.

The season included a full roster of games for Cadet and Juvenile leagues of boys and girls, and organized tournaments for players at both the Atom and Bantam levels.

There was an ALPS vs. NAA tournament where the top teams in ALPS played against the top teams in the NAA (see below for the teams who represented ALPS).

More action ensued at the ALPS vs. NAA All-Star Challenge where each pool was able to enter one boy and one girl, non-winter water polo players born in 1995 or later, to compete against a similar group of top-level players from the NAA.

The Quebec Games water polo games took place on August 7th & 8th, once again with teams from ALPS competing against teams from the NAA.

The season wrapped up with Cadet finals and Juvenile finals on the 16th and 18th of August.

All in all, thre were numerous opportunities for kids who'd never tried the sport to give it a try and for those who have been actively involved to improved their skills. Dollard Water Polo club is a local indoor club that sends teams and players to compete at the highest levels in Canadian water polo, including the Olympics and many of those players come directly from the ALPS outdoor summer water polo programme.

This year, the games were held at the Dollard Civic Centre on Friday, August 13th, 2010. The best summer players from both NAA and ALPS competed against each other. Each pool was able to enter one boy and one girl, non-winter water polo players, who were born in 1995 or later. Coaches were selected by vote from among all nominated ALPS and NAA coaches.
